THE BODY LANGUAGE OF EARTH

The body is a hologram of our being. Each area of the body reflects the alignment between our higher purpose (our soul's beliefs) and the beliefs we choose as we move through life.

When we experience chronic pain, illness or injury, we are receiving a message from the subconscious. These messages can be translated to understand where our thinking/doing/believing is out of alignment.

The messages from the Earth areas of the body have to do with balance, relationships and the environment. You could say that any problem of balance will manifest itself into the environment; therefore when the Earth areas of the body are chronically challenged, we must look to the relationship between the other four elements and how the reflection of that imbalance shows up both physically and externally.

The four parts of being human - Metal, Water, Wood and Fire - are exactly like four nations of people living on one planet. (To read more about these four nations, go here) The relationships between these four nations determines the quality of the environment. I believe one of our main purposes here is to use the microcosm of our collective, inner "nations" to heal the macrocosm of the entire planet. When the four nations within you are playing nice together, the nations without cannot help but follow. I must stress the importance of this idea!! For too long we have been trained to focus on problems externally, and we see where that has taken us. It is now time to use our feminine skills of turning within, and making the necessary corrections within ourselves to bring about the world as we would have it.

Earth governs the reflection of our internal world via our external world. It also governs the Earth herself. Think about the reflection of poisoned water. What kind of poisons do you consistently pollute your body with? Think about the mining of oil and precious stones. How do you strip the inner wealth from your body and trade it for a paycheck? Think about the lush green of paradise, and then think about how your body has become a parched desert. As within, so without. The Earth areas of the body remind us that NATURE is our true home; that Earth herself is the ultimate provider, and that without reconnecting to her with sacred respect, we will die.

Earth areas of the body include:

Hips

The Hips are our center - supporting the weight and mass of our body and helping it move forward in life. Hip issues generally point to imbalances, often in co-dependence and/or over-responsibility. Our hips hold most of our upper body weight when we sit - so carries the head, the heart and the feeling energy. If we are then disconnected from our physical body - little running, playing, and simply being active - the energy of movement grinds to a halt in the hip area. This will also affect the muscles holding the hips in place.

Stomach

The stomach is the place in which we assimilate the energy we take into the body. Issues with digestion point to imbalances in how we process energy. The Earth personality is susceptible to co-dependence and over-responsibility, so often there are issues with how energy is received and given. When one learns more about the digestive system and how it works, restoring our digestive health will actually facilitate better emotional relationships. When you learn the amazing and complex dance your body does to assimilate energy, and find ways to support that process, your body and your life will respond with renewed vigor and energy.

Mouth

While the tongue is governed by Fire, the mouth itself is ruled by Earth. Not only do we need to pay attention to what is coming into the mouth, we also need to understand what is coming OUT of our mouth. The words we use to speak about ourselves and our world literally create our experiences. When we change our language, we change our life. So, as your pay attention to what you are putting into your mouth (healthy food, supplements, etc) think also about what is coming out. If every word you said came true the moment you said it, would you love your life?

Spleen

The spleen functions as part of the immune system and contributes to the production and storage of blood cells as part of the circulatory system. This means the spleen is strongly connected to the Fire element, or the heart. The majority of the spleen's functions are related to the immune system, connecting it to the Wood Element, or Warrior energy. The spleen removes old red blood cells, called erythrocytes, from the blood supply and removes, stores and produces white blood cell lymphocytes. These stored lymphocytes produce antibodies and assist in removing microbes and other debris from the blood supply, connecting it to the Metal element of letting go. Issues with the spleen may be indicative of imbalances with the body's ability to respond to environmental toxins (both physical and emotional.) Fire, Wood and Metal behaviors should all be inspected for spleen issues.

Flesh (weight)

Your body is your own personal Earth. Think about the ramifications of that. Within you, you carry mountains, and rivers, and are teeming with life of all sizes. When your personal planet is strip-mined, or poisoned, or disrespected too many times, you will see results in the shape, size and health of your body. Your weight is not the issue as much as the coherence of your weight. What that means is, how solid is your body? How much awareness do you have about your body at any given moment? When I was living in Mexico, when I gave the Mexican women massages, I marveled at the coherence of their bodies. The flesh on their bodies was strong, and because they danced and dressed up and enjoyed their bodies, they inhabited them with power. I find that less common here in the states.

If you would like to help Mother Earth, consider bringing your own body into balance. Yoga is an excellent way of bringing awareness into ares of the body we normally do not think about. Some fun things to do include swinging, rolling on the ground with happy dogs, dancing, singing, skipping, hula-hooping, and laughing.
