Happy
Spring! Due to a dearth of my “seeds” bursting into
growth, I missed sending out the spring newsletter. Officially Spring
began February 4. From February 4 until March 21, we were in the
first 6 weeks of a three month Wood cycle (focus, action, masculine
energy) while simultaneously being in the last 6 weeks of a six
month feminine cycle (inward, stillness). March 21st, we move into
the six month masculine cycle combined with the remaining six weeks
of the Wood energy - a potent time for action and commitment. You
may have been feeling a bit of schizophrenia during these past 6
weeks – a need to break out into action, and yet an inability
to move. This is natural for this time of year. We are bursting
to step into a great action, yet being held back while we prepare
the ground for the new season.
On March 21st, that action energy explodes forth. The rush of new
sap rising to the tips of our branches can fill us with inspiration
and a need to go forth and DO something. Even tempered by the fears
of the global economy, that energy demands we take action. What
action can we take, when all around us things are crumbling? How
can we press on, when we cannot know where our actions will lead,
or what kind of a foundation is there to support our actions? The
action of spring is not only the growth of buds and leaves; it is
the deepening of our roots into fertile soil.
One of my favorite videos can be found here:
It shows how sound frequencies create form, using specific geometric
shapes. The theory is that all matter is created by sound waves
(giving us another good reason to think about what we say and how
we say it). As you watch this video, observe that when a frequency
moves to the next octave, the geometry gets more complex. Using
this as a metaphor, as humans evolve, or raise frequencies, we become
more complex. Now, it will come as no surprise to anyone that we
are going through a change here on Planet Earth, and in my opinion,
that change is the human race moving towards a higher frequency.
But if you go back and look at the video again, watch the transition
from one frequency to another. What do you see? Chaos. Each time
the geometry shifts, there is a period of chaos. The length of time
that chaos takes place depends upon how long it takes to reach the
next note on the scale. In other words, do-re-mi-fa-sl-la-ti-do
are all specific shapes, and the space between them is chaotic.
And that is what this particular season of Spring brings to us –
chaos. How can we plant roots in something that is shfting and changing
constantly? When things we believed true prove to be false, how
do we proceed and go forward? When we do not know what is coming,
how can we put down roots and grow?
This spring, we are being given an opportunity to plant ourselves
in something new. Since the ground underfoot is shifting, we need
to find somewhere else to put our roots. This somewhere else is
trust. Trust in our personal power, to attract what we need exactly
when we need it. Trust in our world, that it loves us and supports
us. Trust in the evolution of our species. And most of all, trust
in the love of those around us.
The uncertainty of these times can put pressure on our relationships.
Yet if we can trust that all of us will weather this shift; if we
can trust that the love we have is permanent and solid, we can plant
our roots in each other. And from the soil of our hearts, we can
nurture each other and bring those we love to fruition. It is a
shift from our “doing it myself” mentality. No longer
can we achieve our goals alone. It is only through feeding others
with our hearts that our own dreams will come to pass. It brings
to mind one of my favorite stories.
Hell was this beautiful dinner gathering
full of people sitting around a table. The table was round and filled
with really really hungry people. In this place each person has
this unbearable hunger in their stomachs. The kind that leaves the
space and noise around filled with a low grumble. It is the kind
of hunger that causes food to smell better than it has ever tasted
before and allows you to taste new subtle little flavors that you
never knew were really there.
In the middle of this round table is a big cast iron cauldron filled
to the brim of what smells like a meal for the gods. The cauldron
is heated, and the stew is simmering with a small low boil. The
aroma fills the room causing pain in everyone’s stomachs as
they crave nothing more in the world but a taste of this heavenly
stew.
Each person at the table has a special spoon crafted to their own
hand. This spoon allows each individual to get the perfect amount
of soup to quench their hunger and is exactly two inches too long
to get into their own mouth. Everyone is seated around the table
and they are trying their very best to feed themselves, but each
time they take a spoonful of soup to their mouths, they miss and
spill the soup all over themselves.
In this story, heaven is the exact same place. Really really hungry
people, with an unbearable hunger are sitting around the best meal
you could ever imagine. Hunger rumbles in the bellies of each person
at the table. And each person has a spoon crafted to their own hand,
a spoon just a little bit too long to feed themselves. But instead
everyone is feeding the person next to them and all are well fed.
Imagine that, heaven and hell, the same place. The only difference
is how we treat one another.
So, this fine spring equinox, when the energy of yin and yang are
perfectly balanced, I invite you to open yourself up and receive
whatever it is you need. Plant yourself in love and trust. Your
job is not to know "how" things will happen - that is
part of the mystery of the cosmos. Your job is be clear what you
need, then TRUST that it will come exactly
when needed. And while you are trusting that your desires will come
to you, look around and see who could use a spoonful of love and
nurturing. My guess is, while you are busy feeding others, your
solution will slip in unnoticed and be waiting for you when you
turn around.
Let's
help each other enjoy these tremendously exciting times.
Blessings!

"Ultimately
what we're touching is the invisible, all-pervasive Intelligence
that surrounds us and penetrates us. It is grooming us to be able
to tolerate its splendor. It can't just reveal itself openly because
we would be forfeited; we'd never know what hit us."
